Savannah Dannielle Rose - Marcum, age 32, of Inez, KY, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 in Fayette Co., KY. She was born September 4, 1985 in Paintsville, KY, to Kenneth Ray Rose and Lucille Maynard Rose of Inez, KY.

She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Gracie Maynard and her grandfather, Jesse Maynard.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Travis Marcum of Louisa, KY, one son, Shawn Alan Marcum of Louisa, KY, one daughter, Kendra Renay Marcum of Louisa, KY, one brother, Alan Rose of Inez, KY and several aunts and uncles who loved her dearly.  


Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Vineyard United Baptist Church. Edsel Rose and Michael Marcum will officiate. Friends may visit after 6 PM on Monday until time of services at the church. Burial will follow in the Maynard Cemetery of Inez, KY. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial donations be made to the Crum Funeral Home.

Ruby Fletcher, age 83 of Lovely, Ky., passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at her residence. Born September 14, 1934 in Martin County, KY, to the late Tolbert and Vadie Maynard. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Elias Fletcher.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by 5 sisters and 1 brother.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by 6 sons; Glen Ray (Darlene) Fletcher of Louisa, KY, Gary (Betty) Fletcher of Inez, KY, Lewis (Edna) Fletcher of Louisa, KY, Randy (Stephanie) Fletcher of Warfield, KY, Raymond (Sharon) Fletcher of Pigeon Roost, KY and Billy Jo (Susan) Fletcher of Pilgrim, KY, 5 daughters; Joyce (Haskel) Stacy of Inez, KY, Shelvie (Roger) Pruitt of Lowmansville, KY, Irene (Thurman) Jude of Pilgrim, KY, Sandy (Dwayne) Collins of Frog Pond, KY, and Lois Faye (Rick) Slone of Pilgrim, KY, 1 sister; Earnestine Moore of Hode, KY,  1 brother; Lewis (Christine) Maynard of Inez. and 34 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren.  

Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Monday, January 1, 2018 at Sidney Old Regular Baptist Church, Pilgrim, KY. Tom Dials, Dewey Jude, Albert Cable, and Richard Staton will officiate. Friends may visit after 6 PM on Saturday until time of services at the church. Burial will follow in the Jude-Fletcher Cemetery of Big Peter Cave, KY. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home.

Billie Jean Chodzko, 75, of Tomahawk, KY, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Mountain Manor Nursing Home. Born October 7, 1942 in Martin County, KY, to the late Shade Booth and Mildred James Kirk.
 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Stanley Chodzko, and her daughters: Juanita Berrero and Nadine Henson.
   

She is survived by two sons: James Maynard of Florida and Virgil Taylor of Chicago, three sisters: Esther Kirk of Inez, KY, Mary Berrero of Crystal Lake, IL, and Alberta Crum of Tomahawk, KY. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.  
   

Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Crum Funeral Home. Kevin Collins will officiate. Friends may visit from 6 – 9 PM on Thursday and Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Kirk Cemetery of Big Lick, KY. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home.

Opal Bowen Hinkle, age 82 formerly of Calf Creek in Inez, Kentucky, passed away at her home on Tuesday, December 19, 2017.  She was born to the late James and Jessie Spaulding Bowen on May 18,1935 as one of 11 children.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Alex Hinkle whom she married on December 1, 1950.
     

Also preceding her are her siblings: John Harlen Bowen, Charles Bowen, Everette Bowen, Pearl (Bowen) Reed, Louise (Bowen) Hinkle, Carol (Bowen) Wirth, and Haskel Bowen.
     

Opal is survived by her sons: Donald (Pauletta) Hinkle and Tivis (Helen) Hinkle, her brothers: Robert Bowen, Dan Bowen and Paul David Bowen. She will also be greatly missed by the grandchildren she adored.
     

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, December 22, 2017 at the Crum Funeral Home in Inez, Kentucky. Burial will follow at the Hinkle Family Cemetery. Friends may visit on Thursday, December 21, 2017 starting at 6:00 pm.

Powers Dillon, 77, of Lawrence County, KY, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Kings Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, KY. Born September 27, 1940 at Martin County, KY, to the late Mont and Laura (Kirk) Dillon. He was a retired coal miner and faithful member and deacon of the Zion (Pack Bottom) Church of Milo Rd, Martin County, KY, for 23 years.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son: Scott Michael Dillon, and two brothers: Ronnie and Wayne Dillon.

He is survived by his wife: Stella (Preston) Dillon of Louisa, KY, one daughter: Anita M. Dillon of Louisa, KY, one son: David P. Dillon of Louisville, KY, one sister: Clarice Warner of Baltimore, OH, and one brother: Ivan Dillon of Louisa, KY.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, December 22, 2017 at Pack Bottom Church. Lonnie Ratliff, Dennis Hughes, and Elijah Collins will officiate. Visitation will begin at 5 PM on Thursday at the church. Burial will follow in the Yates Cemetery, Louisa, KY. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home.

Rodney Dale Stepp “Cockeye”, age 46, of Debord, KY, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at his home. Born, May 28, 1971 in Prestonsburg, KY, he is the son of the late Wendale Stepp and Margaret Preece Estep. He is survived by his wife, Sadie Michelle Blankenship Stepp. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by three sons: Jordan Dale (Hope) Stepp of Pilgrim KY, Harley Dale Stepp of Debord, KY, and Haskel Shawn Varney of Cynthiana, KY, one daughter: Megan Breanna (Kenneth) Todd of Inez, KY, 3 brothers: Tony Preece of Inez, KY, Jason (Brittany) Stepp of Louisa, KY, and Ted (Emily) Stepp of Monterey, TN,  one sister: Nancy (Michael) Keating of Ironton, OH, and three grandchildren: Kenadi Todd of Inez, KY, Cashton Dale Stepp of Pilgrim, KY, and Bailee Lynn Varney of Cynthiana, KY.
    

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the Crum Funeral Home, Inez, KY. Burial will follow in the Stepp Family Cemetery, Inez, KY. Friends may visit after 5 – 9 PM Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Crum Funeral Home, Inez.

Lois Lee Horne, 88, of Inez, KY passed peacefully from this life on Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, KY.  She was born November 19, 1929 in Inez, KY to Floyd W. and Janie (Fitzpatrick) Horne.   After graduating from Inez High School she moved to Columbus, OH where she became an employee of General Motors.  After a 30 year career, she retired in 1982 and returned home to Inez where she spent her remaining years gardening, reading, and spending time with her friends, family, and pets.

She is survived by two brothers, Gene T. Horne of Columbus, OH, and Gayle H. Horne of Richmond, KY; a sister, Joyce H. McBride of Inez, KY, and a host of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Edsel T. Horne, and Gary W. Horne.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Wanda Faye Kazee and Ladonna Hall, who were dedicated and loving care givers during her illness.

At Lois’s request, funeral and burial will be a private event for immediate family only.  The Crum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Avenue, Ashland, KY  41101. 

 

Obituaries 

Roy Preece went to be with the Lord on December 31, 2017. Roy was the son of Homer and Betty Preece. He was born on January 27, 1954. Roy is survived by his wife, Phyllis Preece, son, Brian (Sue) Preece, son, Gary (Dawn) Hinkle, grandchildren, Cheyenne Preece and her son Sam, brother, Bill (Kay) Preece and their children Derek, Kayln and Todd, and sister, Barbara Fletcher and her son Brandon. He is also survived by nieces Chandra and Pam, and nephews, Roy, Chris and Tony, children of his deceased brothers, Virgil and Clinton (Anita) Preece. Many years ago Roy adopted a family of daughters, Linda (Marc) Pucel and Faye and Melissa Moore. Roy adopted another family at the River Baptist Church where he served the Lord as an assistant pastor. Roy’s favorite sound was laughter and his favorite place was outdoors, but above all else Roy loved the Lord.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Crum Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Muncy Cemetery, Dryhouse, KY. Arnold Fletcher and Buddy Stacy will officiate. Friends may visit from 6 PM to 9 PM on Thursday and 6 PM to 9 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Crum Funeral Home.
