John Walter Cassady was born in Inez, Kentucky, on March 11, 1944, to Sam and Daisy Cassady. He was the 6th of 10 children. His siblings that preceded him in death were sisters, Jean, Joan, and Sarah, and brothers, Alex and Hedy. Surviving siblings are Peggy, Mickey, Roger and Annette. He was an uncle to many.
He married his wife of 51 years, Robin, in 1973. They have two sons, Alex and Patrick. He was Papa to three grandchildren, Justin, Hayden, and Alyssa. He loved his boys and grandchildren, "to the moon and back!". He told us he went to the moon a couple times not long before he died.
He served two years in the Army at Ft. Jackson.
John was a lover of animals, especially horses. Many nights he would get calls from horse owners, to come doctor their horses with colic. He was a ranch manager for many years. During the holidays he would work at the ranch during the day and bake bread for Mazzulli's all night. His main occupation was a racehorse trainer. He was always working on a deal for a horse. He even traded a horse for a travel trailer a guy won on the Price is Right. He loved going to the horse races, especially betting. He loved watching the races on television with his son, Patrick.
His past few years he struggled with heart disease and dementia. He passed away on January 24, 2025, under the wonderful care of his sister-in-law, Kitty. We can't thank her enough. He's looking down on us with his mom, dad, brothers, sisters, and cousin Bill.
A private memorial service will be held on Cassady Cemetery.
