Joseph William York, Jr. of Lovely, KY went home to be with the Lord on December 8, 2023. He was born on September 14, 1947 to the late Joseph William York, Sr. and Sarilda York. He was the youngest of twelve kids. He was raised on Collins Creek Road in Warfield, KY. He married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Evans, on June 4, 1966. They moved to Belleve, OH where he worked at Goodyear Tires. Joseph and Wanda were blessed with two children, Christina and Joseph York, III. His family moved back to Lovely, KY in the early 1970's where he worked at Ora Mae Coal Company and later retired from Sidney Coal Company. Joseph gave his heart to Jesus and was a long time member of Lovely Freewill Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also past Master of Warfield Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Evans York, his two children, Chrissy (Brian) Slone and Joey (Rhonda) York, four grandchildren, BJ (Samantha) Slone, Matt (Jayde) Slone, Dacia (Daniel) Harless, and Joseph York. He has six great-grandchildren, Easton and Eli Slone, Vivi and Drew Slone, and Graycee and Maverick Harless. Anyone he talked to always heard about his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was so proud of all of them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph, Sr. and Sarilda York as well as eleven brothers and sisters, James, Edward, Prentice, Walter, Dorothy, Elizabeth, Blanche, Bodine, Georgiann, Fern, and Bell York. Joe was a kind man who never met a stranger. He loved to say the bible says a man who has friends must show himself friendly (Proverbs 18:24). Joe had no shortage of friends and will truly be missed. Although we will all grieve, solace can be found in that Joe is now in the arms of God. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 1 PM at the Lovely Freewill Baptist Church with Lonnie Smith and Danny Hall officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverview Memorial Garden in Louisa, KY. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Saturday from 6 PM to 9 PM and at the church on Sunday from 6 PM to 9 PM. There will be a Masonic Service at 7 PM on Saturday during visitation at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home of Inez, KY.
