Legina Sue Maynard Jude, a blond-haired, blue-eyed beauty, made her debut as the second daughter and fifth child into the family of the late Herbert and Norma Jean Maynard on Wednesday, September 26, 1962. Of course, she was adored and doted upon especially as she grew and toddled around. She soon exhibited an independent, fighting spirit and insisted on doing things her own way.
Legina found her niche by working in different nursing homes both as a housekeeping supervisor and as a receptionist. The residents where she worked loved her, and she loved them and showered them with her wit, charming personality, gifts and encouragement. And even though she moved to Columbus, Ohio, and worked there the last several years, she still bled Kentucky blue.
Unfortunately, for those of us who loved her and those who were inspired by her vibrant personality at work or by her encouraging and positive messages and posts on Facebook, Legina was called home far sooner than we would have chosen on Saturday, August 21, 2021, in Columbus, Ohio, after battling metastatic breast cancer. She continued a valiant fight until the end, and she is now at peace and is free from pain, nausea and smothering.
Besides her dad, she was preceded in death by her oldest brother, John Herbert Maynard and her sister-in-law Judith Helton Maynard.
The family she leaves behind until she meets them again in her eternal home includes her children and grandchildren (or her kiddos and doodlebugs), Sheena Hammond with Dylan Spence and Brayden Hammond; Jesse (Brooke) Reed with Hyden, Hank, and Hensley; Stephen (Tenisha) Reed with Luke and Khloe; her siblings, Sharon Maynard, Joe (Wanda) Maynard, Greg (Bonnie) Maynard, Ronald Maynard and Denise (Garry) Gauze, Natasha (Stan) Boyd; tons of nieces, nephews, cousins; and the love of her life and caretaker, Michael Sammons.
Please join us in celebrating her life on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at 11 AM in the chapel of Crum Funeral Home with James R. Maynard officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Louisa, KY. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday, August 23, 2021 from 5 PM to 9 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home of Inez, KY.
