Richard Runyon

Richard Runyon, 76, loving husband of Joyce Runyon, of Pigeon Roost went home to be with the Lord Saturday, June 15, 2024.

Born February 10, 1948, in Kermit, WV, he was the son of the late Roy and Evelyn Jones Runyon. Richard graduated from Kermit High School in 1968, drafted into the US Army, served in Korea as an IMJIN Scout that patrolled the Korean DMZ. He is a retired coal miner of 26 years. He loved his time in the coal mines, having been a Section Foreman for 21 of 26 years. He was a member of Lovely Freewill Baptist Church since 1986. He enjoyed spending time with his family, vacationing in Daytona Beach, playing with grandkids, and working around the house.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce Robinson Runyon, son Brian (Rachel) Runyon, daughter Michelle Poole, and beloved Poppaw to 4 grandchildren, Brandon (Brianna) Poole, Drew Poole, Hannah (Blake) Woods, Austin Runyon, and one great-grandson, Colter Woods. Spending time with his grandchildren gave him great joy and wonderful memories.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Leeroy, Larry Joe, Lewis Ray, Chester, Charles Cecil, Wilbur Dean, Wendell Glen, Roger, and son-in-law, Chris Poole.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 at 1 PM, in the chapel of Crum Funeral Home with Lonnie Smith and Danny Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Louisa, KY. Friends may visit the funeral home on Sunday evening, June 16, 2024, from 6 PM to 9 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home of Inez, KY.
